He’s a character already with a proven track record of being entertaining across multiple genres and styles, making him an ideal candidate for creators to use to mix up their narratives a little.
From the straight-faced, demon-slaughtering horror of the first film, to the borderline-slapstick fantasy adventure of Army of Darkness, Ash is an engaging protagonist all the way. He’s a charming, lovable goofball who, just in the Evil Dead movies alone, proved himself to be dynamic and adaptable to multiple genres. The series proved a huge success and spawned a number of sequels, spinoffs, and even an episode of Marvel Studios’ What If…? The square-jawed, Deadite-slaying protagonist has had to face off against Kandarian demons, his own evil sentient hand, sword-wielding skeletons, possessed taxidermied deer, and much, much more. The stalwart hero of the Evil Dead franchise, Ash Williams has seen no shortage of insane adventures over the years.
